Club youth programs Student of the Month and Youth Appreciation were presented to our club by Harper Creek High School Principal and club member Matthew Montange during our weekly meeting on April 17th. Six of the nine students selected as honored “Student of the Month” were present and were accompanied by their parents. Three students were unable to attend due to school related sports activities. The senior students are selected monthly by Harper Creek High School teachers and the main criterion for the honor is based on the student’s citizenship, leadership and academic qualities. Matthew delivered a detailed synopsis of each student’s academic achievements, extra-curricular activities plus community service projects they participated in before presenting each recipient with an honorary plaque designating their chosen month. The students introduced their family members and entertained those in attendance who had questions for them.
The students present also participated in the “Youth Appreciation” program. This event involves a student job-shadowing for a day a local businessman or school administrator. The students individually informed us about their experience and the knowledge they obtained being a pseudo-employee in a real life busy work environment for a day. Through these two worthwhile youth programs our club has learned that we are very fortunate and we feel “optimistically” privileged to have such great students in our community, who will become our future leaders!
