Summer Meetings

Club summer meetings commence starting June 4th at our same location by Sonoma Lake. Please join us and bring a friend for an outdoor picnic and social gathering. Be there by 6:30 PM every Thursday and you will not be late. We are again meeting at club member David Jaques estate located shore side on Sonoma Lake. Meals are $5 and each beverage of your choice is only $1. A game of euchre or a pontoon ride may be on the agenda. Club member Lee Griffin has again stepped up to chair the event and be sure that food and beverages are present. Rain will probably not cancel the gathering as inside accommodations are available at the location. Be sure to catch each week’s call-em-all to be sure alternative plans have not been arranged such as a gathering at Bailey Park for a Bombers baseball game, cancellations due to extremely inclement weather or meeting at club member Duncan Bailey’s for a “pool party”.

The location may be a little tricky to find if you have not been there before. Coming south from Battle Creek on M-66, turn west on B Drive South (where Orchard Park Grocery was once located). Continue west on B Drive South past Sonoma Elementary School to 4 Mile (Sonoma) Road. Turn south (left) and go about a mile until you come to this location, which enables you to turn right towards Sonoma Lake.

Our club was represented by 15 club members in attendance. Those in attendance purchased a meal of their choice from the menu, were entertained with the opportunity to win numerous door prizes and heard reports from the three clubs about their last year’s successful projects that supported the youth of our community.  Pictured below (L-R) are the Harper Creek club officers in attendance that were sworn in for their specific position: John Sims, Sr. – Vice-President, David Jackson – Treasurer, Chad Kyger – President, Al Miller – Board of Directors  and Dick Brown – Board of Directors.2014-09-OptimistHCOfficers

We will be meeting inside again this year at Moonraker West at 6:30 PM every Thursday starting October 9th. On October 2nd we will be meeting at Binder Park in conjunction with our sponsorship of the All City Girls Golf Tournament.

Corporate Optimist of the Year

Our club is very proud to have our nominee, Lakeview Ford-Lincoln, Inc., selected this year as the Corporate Optimist of the Year for the Michigan District. Owner and club member, Vince Pavone was present to accept his award last weekend at the State Optimist Convention, which was held in Kalamazoo. Along with countless community philanthropic contributions, Lakeview Ford-Lincoln, Inc. has been extremely financially gracious with respect to our club. Please read the attached nomination letter and you can easily see why the business was worthy of being selected for the honor. Congratulations Vince and Lakeview Ford!!
