Successful 2016 Cash Raffle & Thanks

The Harper Creek Optimist club expresses special thanks to all those who supported our main fund-raising event by purchasing a raffle ticket or simply volunteering their time as a club member. The event was held at the local Riverside Country Club on Saturday, March 5th. This location has proved to be an excellent venue for our event and the catered meal, host beverages and service, plus our DJ background music and sound system was well accepted by all.

All but 11 of the allotment of 300 tickets were sold this year; that is the best we have done in years! All the guaranteed monetary prizes that were designated on the official ticket were given away this year. The side board winner won $500 for purchasing the proper square relative to the ticket number that was the 150th draw. There was no pooling of the final 10 tickets and the winner of the last ticket drawn from the drum was not present to collect his $8,000 cash prize. He has been contacted and graciously accepted his winnings! And most important of all; the money we generated from this event will all be channeled back into the community.

Pictured below are long-time club members Al Miller, Craig Miller and John Peruzze. Al was the MC for the event, Craig assisted him with keeping track of the drawn tickets and John was the official ticket drawer.2016-03-OptimistRaffeAlMePeruzze

Even if you were not a “cash winner”, you can tell by the smiling faces that those in attendance were having a great time.2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests11 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests9 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests6 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests4 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests1 2016-03-OptimistRaffeEisenSims2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests12 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests10 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests8 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests7 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests5 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests3 2016-03-OptimistRaffeGuests2 2016-03-OptimistRaffeErskine 2016-03-OptimistRaffeBassler 2016-03-OptimistRaffeBarMaids

Essay Contest Winner

Caitlynn Dellinger, a Harper Creek High School Senior, was the winner of our club’s Optimist International Essay Contest this year. She presented to our club along with her family and read the winning essay to our club during our general meeting on March 3rd. The topic the entrants had to write on this year was “Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction”. This was not an easy topic, but Caitlynn’s thoughts were very philosophical, organized and grammatically correct. You can read her essay by clicking on the link below. Our club awarded her $300 for her winning composition and has entered the essay into the District contest where she has a chance to win a $2,500 scholarship! Caitlynn is pictured below accepting her winnings from Dr. Craig Miller, this year’s Essay Chairperson.
